Product Review: Olay Fresh Effects Eye Awakening Cream

Quite often when I'm in a drugstore, I'm always stuck around the skincare section browsing for anything new to try. I have extremely sensitive skin that dries quite easily, as well as red blemishes that like to pop up and remind me of why I love makeup (ha!), so I'm always looking for anything new that might help out. Before my trip back to school, I was in the Superstore stocking up on some necessities to bring with me to Halifax. That's when I found this Olay product.

The Olay Fresh Effects Bright On Schedule Eye Awakening Cream. The product claims:

"For a well-rested look, gently squeeze the tube and use the tri-roller ball to massage the cream under your eye area for up to 30 seconds for each eye. Then, let the formula go to work with its naturally-inspired ingredients like honeysuckle, white tea, and cucumber. You'll quickly feel refreshed as you reduce the look of puffiness and dark circles. Plus, it's oil-free and won't clog your pores - so it's good for your skin.

Olay Fresh Effects Bright On Schedule Eye Awakening Cream cools and hydrates your skin with breathable lightweight moisture. Roll on each morning for a well-rested look."

I figured it could come in handy during the long day of travel to the other side of the country. Anyone who's spent more than just a few hours on an airplane knows how dry your skin can get. When I travel, I don't tend to put on much makeup; generally just some concealer to cover up any spots. I thought, hey, it might make me look like I'm an actual living person!

So I tried it. On my layover in Toronto, I rolled some of the cream on under my eyes and did what the instructions said. What happened? It only made it worse. It highlighted my dark circles, almost making them darker. I had to throw on some concealer so I didn't look so horrid! Once back home, I tried it a few more times over the next few weeks but it never seemed to do what the packaging claimed it was supposed to.

I don't expect miracles from drugstore brands. I didn't expect it to completely make any darkness disappear, but I certainly did not expect it to almost seemingly darken my eyes even more. The 'awakening' it's titled after certainly was not the effect I had while using it.

If you're looking for something to help with the dark circles and puffiness after a long night of travelling, studying for exams or just after a bad sleep, I'd suggest merely grabbing a cold spoon and laying it underneath your eyes. It helps a hell of a lot more than this did. (FYI - the spoon trick actually helps a wee bit!)

** As with any review, this is my own personal experience and opinion. Everyone and their skin is different, so if you've used it and had a positive experience, comment below and let me know!
